It’s hot, hot, hot for this celebration of America’s passionate love affair with cars and rock & roll. Got the hots for a Hemi? Obsessed with Olds? Desperate for a DeSoto? Feeling fine for a 409? Then this week will quench your thirst for that hot rod action.



The baby boomers and Gen X’ers will have a chance to relive the happy days while blasting the past of 50’s to 70’s carefree hot rodding. It also provides an opportunity for those who didn’t experience to enjoy the fun era as well.

Y’all gotta check out the biggest concoction of rods, customs, classics, home-mades, pro-fabricateds, etc. It’s sea of shining automotive sweetness.



What? It’s nowhere in the world but
Reno’s Hot August Nights

When? August 6 - 14, 2011



Beside the cool cars, be warned of the massive, fun and old-fashioned rodders’ and spectators’ parties, parades and shows. Many great entertainers from the classic years will be there to bop the crowd to frenzy.

The Temptations starring Dennis Edwards, Gary Puckett, Village People, Papa Doo Run Run, Grass Roots, Sonny Turner, Kraig Parker (Elvis tribute act), Satisfaction (Mick Jagger/Rollingstones), Abbacadabra (Abba), Fanstastic Diamond (Neil Diamond) and others are scheduled to appear at various venues. Most of the entertainment is free to the public.



It’s all happening all over Reno and Sparks. Like in previous years, more than 800,000 people will gather to the event. According to official stats, 5,000 classic cars are registered for the event from 36 states across the nation, including Alaska, Massachusetts and Florida and three Canadian provinces.

Californians will bring over 2,500 cars for this event. Nevadans have over 1,500 cars entered and registration from the Pacific Northwest is strong with over 280 from Oregon and over 220 cars from Washington.



The spectators are there gawk, gaze & glare at all the rolling pieces of art work in shiny wheels with illusion-painted bodies. Yes, the cars are the stars. The major hotels will dedicated their parking lots to the show cars and many vendor displays. Pack the kids & picnic next to the mean machineries.

Most showcars have the no-touch requests, however. A popular sticker says, “This car is like my hot wife, you can look but you cannot touch.”

At many of the big hotel premises, there will be sights and sounds of rat rods, hi-boys, lead sleds, deuce coupes, the ponies, classics and the muscle cars and trucks. Most likely, the gaudy goats (GTO’s) will be there too. Assorted car clubs will gather there as well. The show car participation is so intense that the limit of 5,000 registered slots filled out 13 or so months ago. The registered cars must be pre-1972 manufacture date.



For the romantics, there is a 50’s/60’s prom night. Yes, the beer-bellied and sagging sweethearts will dance the night away, powered with that potent juicew, Geritol. There will be controlled cruises where you can watch rolling Picassos on display. Check out the drag races where you can really see the cars spin their stuff. Go witness a Show-n-Shine, see the huge Swap Meet, visit the Nostalgia Faire, the Big Boy’s Toy Store, the Silver Auction and the Cool Car Showroom.

For over decade now, the poolside dance party starts with the Cinco de Mayo Feisty Fiesta celebration. Wild, it is!. Year after year, the SF bay area’s hottest place every Thursday evening is at the Pleasanton Hilton’s Sizzlin’ Summer party zone.

The vibrant party atmosphere goes on with an assortment of premiere party bands lined up. Do come, get it on, dance and live it to the max.



It’s arguably the bay area’s coolest places to hook up & interact with fun dance friends on a weekday evening. Past events were an absolute blast that exploded to a frenzied fun fest. So it you are stuck in traffic at the junction of Highways 680 & 580, take the nearest exit and join the fun fling.

The happening is a combination of fun frenz’ and social strangers’ boppin & dancin’ to one of the area’s heavily-demanded and award-winning party bands. With a positive and uninhibited mindset, you’ll experience sheer ecstasy with hundreds of fans in attendance.

The season ends with a wild Halloween party in October.


Fundamentals

Billed as the Pleasanton Hilton at da’Club’s Hot Sizzling Nights, this outdoor event has the mixed party flavor of a Princess Cruise’s sailaway social, beachside bash at Fat Tuesday Cancun, the wild Carnival Cruiser’s Xcitement at Senor Frog’s Mazatlan and an aire of upscale Miami South Beach sophistication.

It happens every Thursday evening from 6 pm til 9 with live bands and The After Party 9pm ‘til 11pm with a DJ JT inside.



This is also a singles’ mingles place. Some do show up with dress to impress in mind. But the cool casual dudes donning their Tommy Bahama silks dominate. The ladies’ show up in low-cut tops that hi-lite the curves & dripping in diamonds.

Presumably due to it’s popularity, THERE IS a $5 cover charge. Offered are weekly food & drink specials




At the onset, the party bands play a few mellow tunes. But the crowd favors lotsa old/new school funky dance beats and mainstream cardio hip hop. They also blend rhythm & blues with the Motown mix.

The contemporary top 40 tunes and the Latin flavor usually get the cool crowd to frenzied fun. Some gets salsa-fied. The age group is predominantly hi 20’s-50’s with lots of disposable income to blow and fun mentality to spare. The networking corporate colleagues are present as well.




The dance fanatics show up and share their dancercize flair. Hey now, the dance devotees do their wild fling while the sweet sophisticates socialize. Group dancing is common with an occassional electric slide. The yearning-to-dance ladies will not wait for the insecure guys who are content on macho posturing and holding on to that security bottle.

It’s the 18th Annual Benicia Classic Car Show !

Where? 123 First St, Marina Green on the Waterfront in Historic Downtown Benicia

When? 9am to 3pm, Sunday, MAY 1, 2011, car show check in starts 7am.



Don’t have or can’t drive a ‘55? With stunning water views in the background, you surely can check out the classic 55 Chevys at the car and truck show on SUNDAY, MAY 1, 2011.

While escaping the inland heat, the funky Fords, the mean Mopars, the growlin’ GTO’s, the carousing Camaros, the muscled Mustangs, the tantalizin’ 32’s will surely be there chillin’ in full snazzy colorful show attire.

If you’re stylin’ for a low, slow and mellow lead sled or feeling mean for the power machines, then do come to this fun-filled fund-raiser benefiting the Benicia High School Panther band.



This family-oriented & FREE public admission event will provide a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying the gleaming vehicles, assorted arts, classy crafts & food fair vendors.

Last year’s scenic waterfront event drew an impressive huge crowd with the hard-working volunteers, parents and students providing the hospitality services. Many car show owners & patrons vowed to come back.



Kick off the sizzlin’ summer with this family event. Get in the program and help the kids as your patronage will benefit the fabulous and award-winning Panther band of Benicia High School. Certainly, this worthwhile event will provide a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying the stunning, way-too-COOL cars and tricked-out trucks.

The car show, however, is just part of the fun and festive activities planned for that day. There will be hourly raffle prize drawings beginning at 11am, from a pool of prizes valued at more the $4,000. There will be DJ music by Jason Diavatis spinning the fab 50’s to top 40’s and requested tunes.

A special performance will be rendered by the BHS Jazz band. All around the venue will be vendor booths featuring car-related merchandise, arts and crafts booths featuring local artists, food and refreshment booths, beverages for all ages, etc. The Cool & Collectible event T-shirts are available.

All pre-1976 vehicles are welcome to pre-register before April 15 with a $30 fee, $40 at gate with available space. The fee admits one car and two adults with free breakfast before 10am. Goodie bags will be handed out for the first 300 show vehicle entrants. Show trophies will be awarded in several categories. Spirited CAR CLUBS are especially invited.

One again, the success of this event will rely on the communities’ involvement and patronage. Much-needed proceeds go to the many important Panther band programs.
